Survey Workflow

EcorisMap User Guide From preparing maps to recording in the field and using your data afterwards.

A survey with EcorisMap runs in three stages—prepare → check & record in the field → organize and use—and the table of contents follows the same order, so reading the chapters in sequence walks you through the whole flow.

Prepare maps · data · survey forms Check & record in the field GPS · check · draw · enter Organize & use PDF · share · edit on to the next survey

Prepare (before you head out)

  1. Load survey sites and past survey results → Import Data
  2. Design your survey form (the fields to record) → Create Survey Forms
  3. Choose a base map; you can also overlay your own maps → Set Up Maps
  4. Download maps of the survey area for places with no signal → Download Maps for Offline Use

Check and record in the field (phone)

  1. Show your location with GPS and start track logging → Use GPS
  2. Record points, lines, and polygons, then enter attributes → Record Data · Draw Points, Lines & Polygons
  3. Check previously recorded data by tapping it on the map or finding it in the list → Check Data
  4. Calculate the area visible from a point to check the line of sight → Creating a Viewshed

Organize and use (back home)

  1. Output your results as a PDF to review them → Output PDFs
  2. Save and share your data, then check and edit it in QGIS or a spreadsheet → Export Data
  3. Review and fix what you recorded on a large computer screen → Review & Fix in the Web Version
  4. Bring the edited data back in, ready for your next survey → Use It in the Next Survey

Tip: Preparing maps, data, and survey forms is most comfortable on the large screen of the web version. The easiest way to hand what you prepared over to your phone is Google Drive Integration. To pass it as a file instead, see Export Data and Import Data.
