Draw Points, Lines & Polygons

Select point / line / polygon / memo from the “draw” button to show the editing tools for each. Features are recorded to the layer that is in edit mode (edit check on) in the Layer list. If no layer is in edit mode, the app shows “There are no editable layers.”.

Tool buttons are red when selected and blue when not selected. Switching the tool type discards any in-progress editing.

Point tool

• here — After you confirm “Add a point at the current location?”, the app adds a point at your GPS current location and opens the Data edit screen. When GPS is off, it shows “Please turn on GPS.” (in the web version, this works while the map’s location button shows your current location).
• add — Use this to record a place other than your current location. Places a new point where you tap on the map, and you can drag to fine-tune the position before lifting your finger. Tapping “confirm” at the top of the screen opens the Data edit screen, and “cancel” discards the point.
• move — Drags the selected point to move it.
• select — Taps an existing feature to select it and start editing its position.

Line tool

• add (plot) — Tap the map to add vertices (nodes) in order.
  • Drag a node to move it. Tap on the line to insert a node, and lightly tap a mid node to delete it (the start point cannot be deleted).
  • Tapping “confirm” with two or more points saves the line and opens the Data edit screen.
• free (freehand) — The path you trace by dragging becomes a smooth line. Trace near a line being edited to redraw and modify that part.
• split — Splits the line being edited into two at the tapped position.
• select — Tap an existing line, or trace over it to range-select, to start editing. Selecting switches to the plot tool, where you can add, move, and delete nodes.

Polygon tool

• The operation is the same as for lines, with two kinds: “add (plot)” and “free”.
• With plot, place three or more points and tap the starting node to close and confirm (or use the “confirm” button).
• With freehand, the shape closes automatically even if the start and end points are apart.
• There is no split tool.

Common buttons while editing

• confirm / cancel (top of the screen) — Saves or discards the editing content. For shapes that cannot be saved (a line with only one point, a polygon that cannot be closed, etc.), an error is shown.
• Map move — While on, touches pan the map and nothing is drawn. You can also move the map with two-finger operation.
• undo — Undoes the previous operation one step at a time.
• delete — Deletes the selected feature (with confirmation).
• lock — A mode for drawing only with the Apple Pencil (shown on iPad only). Finger touches become map operations.

Map memo

A tool for writing handwritten memos directly on the map. Memos are saved to a line-type layer in edit mode. When you select the tool, the layer’s color type changes automatically to “Individual”.

• pen — Draws lines by dragging. Tap (or long-press) the button to open the “select pen” dialog, where you choose the thickness (thin / medium / thick), kind (curve / straight), and arrow (none / end / both). Long-press over a drawn line to redraw and modify it from that position onward.
• stamp — Places a circle, triangle, or square symbol. Turning on “snap to line” places it on a nearby line.
• brush — Draws decorations (plus / cross) along an existing line. It snaps to and draws on a line, so a target line is required.
• eraser — Erases by tracing. Choose from three kinds: “erase everything / Erase the brush / Delete stamps”.
• color — Selects the pen color by hue, saturation, brightness, and transparency.

• undo / redo — Undoes and redoes your drawing (up to 10 history entries).
• lock — Apple Pencil-only mode (iPad only).
• To move the map, use two-finger operation.

Memo data

Map memos appear in the Data list just like ordinary lines, and you can export them. The line width (_strokeWidth), color (_strokeColor), line kind/arrow (_strokeStyle), stamp type (_stamp), and the zoom level when drawn (_zoom) are saved as fields.

Position edit mode (the “Position” button on the Data edit screen)

Tapping “Position” on the Data edit screen enters a mode for editing that data’s location on the map.

• Point: Change the position by dragging or tapping, and confirming returns you to the Data edit screen automatically. For data without location information, the place you tap becomes its position.
• Line/Polygon: Redraw with plot or freehand, then confirm.
• “Back” discards the edit and returns to the Data edit screen (with a “Discard position changes?” confirmation).
• You can also move a point on the map directly by dragging it (a “Do you want to change the position?” confirmation appears).
